Introduction: An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy to the mechanical energy. We can also get the reverse form in which it will be the conversion of mechanical energy to the electrical energy. This lab experiment explain the electric motor in a simple format and reveals how the electric motor works.
Goal: To design and build an electric motor.
A. How can you make your motor run in reverse? Make sure to try it.
We can make the motor run in reverse by flipping the magnet in other side in such a way that the side with the opposite charge will be facing towards the motor.
B. Try making various armatures for your motor. Note: The wire can be straightened and rewound several times; also a second wire is included in your LabPaq for this purpose. Increase or decrease the number of turns in the armature. What effect does this have?
We changed the armature and also the number of turns in the armature with increase speed and also decrease speed. It shows the effect by differing the speed and efficiency of motor each time increasing or decreasing the number of turns in armature.
C. How do you think this motor operates?
The magnet pushes the magnetic wire and then the batteries and the jumper cable send the current through the paper clips into the wire. With the current and magnetic opposition, the armature will spin create the motor that will move.
This lab aims to show how the electric motor works. It shows how a magnet and coil wire can cause armature to spin and depicts how to reverse the direction of the spinning motor. It demonstrates the concept how an electric motor operates by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy through the use of magnetic force.
