Environmental Law and Ethics
Decision making is critical in any activities undertaken by individuals in any organization since they affect the future operations of the organization. In the case study, the Vice President can be commended for notifying the president about the problem facing the company which is marine paint leech. However, the decision made by the president is not admissible since the paint leech was affecting the environment. Keeping quiet about the issue is not ethically recommendable and would, later on, add more problems to the organization.
Administrative agencies are bodies which are formed by use of the constitution, local lawmaking bodies and state legislatures to amend problems in the society, look into complicated matters that are beyond the knowledge of lawmakers and handle unstable situations in the society (Eaton, 2018). There are various types of administrative agencies which include Central Intelligence Agency, General Service Administration, and Environmental Protection Agency. In this scenario, an administrative agency that governs compliance of the manufacturer will be addressed.
Administrative agency that governs regulatory compliance of the manufacturer
The administrative agency that governs regulatory compliance of a manufacturer is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which supervises all the laws regarding the environment, including air pollution, water pollution, toxic substances and the use of pesticides among others (Hsu, 2016). Therefore, the protection agency outlines all the details relating to the management of the environment. Every manufacturer is therefore aware of all the careful measures it needs to undertake so as not to violate the set rules and regulations (Eaton, 2018). The paint manufacturing firm might find itself in a pool of problems if they continue to ignore the issue at hand. It should, therefore, address the issue as fast as it could to maintain its position in society.
The president should take up the concern since there are several judicial actions that could be taken by the Environmental Agency if the issue is ignored. If the company is found guilty of ignorance, its operations may be put to a stop. Other actions include imprisonment of managers and fines which are a loss to the company.
Ethical concerns regarding the President’s actions and what Eric should do
Some of the ethical concerns that can be associated with the president include dishonesty as he does not want to come out and address the issue, egocentric since he does not consider the life of the marine or people who benefit from marine beings and untrustworthy as he tells the Vice President to make sure no one knows about the issues, therefore he cannot be trusted. He should have come out clearly and address the issue instead of running away or ignoring the findings brought forth.
Eric is in a tough situation considering the aims to keep his job. He obviously feels that the way the situation was handled unethically. Eric should take a step even if it means losing his job as he will be saving more lives. For instance, he could confront his boss, the Vice President about this topic and plead with him to join him in addressing the issue. In case, it fails to work; he could obtain the facts that will prove the existence of the current situation whether by doing lab tests on the water or interviewing people and sending the results to the Environmental agency directly so that they could address the issue before it gets out of hand.
