The Mind of Suicide Bombers

Wafa Idris

Wafa Idris was considered to be the first female suicide bomber in the conflict of the Israeli and Palestine conflict.  On January 27th, 2002, she detonated a 22-pound bomb in Jerusalem centre along the Jaffa road (Naaman, 2007). The motive and intention of the suicide was not clearly determined but the action killed three people while injuring more than 100 others.

Hanadi Jaradat

Hanadi Jaradat is a Palestinian woman who blew up herself on October 4th 2003 in Maxim restaurant located in Haifa, northern Israel (Arnon, 2003). This was in revenge of cousin who was killed by the Israel Defense Forces who operated covertly in Jenin. The attack killed more than 21 people while about 51 were injured.

Reem Riyashi

Reem Riyashi was a Palestinian woman and a mother of two children, who killed herself in at the Erez Crossing in Israel. The suicide attack took place in January 14th 2004 and killed four Israelis. This was in revenge of the Israeli incursions into the West Bank cities that led to deaths of 25 Palestinians.

Asmar Latin Sani

Asmar Latin Sani was a suicide bomber from West Sumatra, who detonated a car bomb at the Marriott Hotel in Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta in August, 5th, 2003. The attack killed twelve people and injured 150. The motive of the attack was unknown.

Ibrahim El Bakraoui

Ibrahim El Bakraoui was one of the suicide bombers in the Brussels Airport bombings that took place in March 22, 2016. He was a Belgian of Morrocan origin. The attack killed about 32 civilians and three perpetrators while more than 300 people were injured (Jim & Mehul, 2016). The motive behind the attack still remains unknown.

Abdullah Badran

He was a 21 year old suicide bomber from Palestinian who blew himself on February 25th, 2005 in a popular Tel Aviv night club opposite the Israeli beachfront. The bombing killed about 5 civilians and injured more than 50 people. The motive of the attack was unknown.
